A Little Bit About Me
Let's start with the boring stuff: Got my B.S. in Biology, minored in Accounting. Went to med school for a semester, hated it, and dropped out (thereby crushing all my parents hopes and dreams). Came back home- intent on going to law school- when entirely by chance I became involved in organizing the Muslim community around discriminatory police policies. For the next 2 years I organized local Muslim youth around the NYPD's Muslim surveillance program. Working with socio-economically and educationally disadvantaged youth and its stark parallel to my own upbringing sparked an interest in education policy. I am now working full time at a non-profit that teaches youth how to meaningfully engage in the democratic process, organizing for police reform on the side AND (here's the kicker) completing an M.A. in Education and Social Policy at NYU. I'm loving all aspects of my academic/professional life and though it feels as if I'm constantly on the go- it's so incredibly fulfilling. Long term I see myself involved in policy work at the city level.
Personality wise: Pretty extroverted most of the time. I like being around people and love meeting and getting know new people. I generally get along with almost everyone, have a really sarcastic (sometimes can be mistaken for mean) sense of humor and try not to take myself too seriously.
I have a younger sister (14) who I'm really close with and expect to play a huge role (including financially) in her life as she grows up and goes to college. Including this so it doesn't cause conflict down the road.
For fun: I'm pretty low key. Coffee shops and evenings alone with a newspaper or a good book are amazing pass-times. Also getting into kickboxing these days. In theory I like hiking and exploring new places (only if it's sunny outside though).
Religion plays a big role in my life, and I'm constantly striving to improve myself. MAS'er for life, into Al Maghrib, Bayinnah and other Islamic classes. I would LOVE to learn Arabic, either abroad or in a really intense program here in the U.S at some point down the road. That said, I have struggled to really hit my groove Islamically, it's changed as I've transitioned from student into professional life. Inshallah still striving to reach a balance.

What I Am Looking For
Preferably a NY based Pakistani- American (I see myself here for at least the next few years). I want someone who understands, respects, and supports that I am still growing and developing both spiritually and professionally. I like constantly challenging myself, and I am ready to have a partner in crime. Relationships are not stoic and so someone who's excited by growing with their spouse.
Ambition and drive are great, but balanced with humility .
I've seen many marriages that are broken because of cultural expectations and the playing out of gender roles and stereotypes, but a relationship is something that needs to be cultivated and nurtured and both spouses need to be merciful with each other.
